Those seeking something a bit more upscale and refined with the hottest spots for dining, drinking, and arts and culture will love Cherry Creek (which I affectionately call The Beverly Hills of Denver, due to its wealthy—but still welcoming—atmosphere). LoDo is where Union Station, Coors Field, and Ball Arena live, making it a fantastic entertainment hub. Don’t miss Five Points if you seek authentic soul food, City Park for some of the best urban outdoor spaces, and Washington Park for some of the most historic architecture and a down-to-earth feel.

When is the best time to visit Denver?

As a Denverite, I’ve found every season offers an abundance of activities. Since the sun is so strong here at 5,280 feet of elevation, the air doesn’t feel as chilly, even on the most brisk winter day. Summertime brings sunny days perfect for strolling around an urban lake or biking along a flowing river. Fall is a fantastic time for leaf peeping and enjoying some of the local seasonal produce in the crisp Mile High air. Wintertime is for snow sports—it’s a season most Denverites actually look forward to due to the breadth of different ski resorts nearby. Spring is when the ground starts to thaw, and barring the occasional random snowstorm (we’re told not to plant anything in our gardens until after Mother’s Day), most days feel mild and pleasant enough for a city stroll.

Those seeking an educational day out will enjoy the Denver Botanic Gardens (for the flora nerds), the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum (for the aviation enthusiasts), or the Museum of Contemporary Art with its rotating exhibits and beautiful open-air rooftop space.

Refueling is easy, because there’s always somewhere new and interesting to eat between one of the many casual food halls like Denver Central Market or Avanti F&B and the more upscale eateries, including Michelin-rated outposts like Alma Fonda Fina or Margot. Shop till you drop along the 16th Street Mall, which features hundreds of storefronts lining a pedestrian-only promenade, capped by Larimer Square, which was the city’s first block, commercial district, and first designated historic district.
